Ignition Autoconnect crap errors "wzccmd.exe"
Tuesday, June 3, 2008, 01:22 PM - Hacks
BYU-Idaho wireless requires the Ignition AutoConnect to be install to take care of the certificates in order to log on to their 802.1x wireless. In the process of using their setup program it crashes with wzccmd.exe. Google brought up like 3 results, all about spyware.

I gave up for a while. I use linux for everyday use so i didn't need to too badly. Linux (ubuntu 8.04) connects perfectly.

After plinking around with it today and sending hate mail to the help desk, i started looking around my system to find something that could possibly be conflicting. Long story short, i disabled the vmware network adapters in my network control panel. BAM! it worked.

Just disable your vmware adapters, install autoconnect, then re-enable them. Its working for me, so i am writing this post to help others who may have this same issue.

Ok,
I lucked out on getting my 3rd Bag of Crap off of Woot!. I just happened to be sitting at the computer when it came. 2 weeks later. Here it comes.

I thought i did rather well:

3x Wall phone adapters (so you can run phone lines through your wiring)
2x 1Gb sansa mp3 players (both work)
1x 6gb sansa media player (no cable, boo)
2x Datasence USb extension cables, lights up.
1x Steel Woot! bucket. #245

I like!

Free Guitar Hero faceplate from Activision
Wednesday, March 26, 2008, 10:43 AM - Family
Wow!

The mail man showed up with a nice box for us. Naturally i thought it was my random shirts from Woot!. We got a nice surprise when we opened it up and it was a new faceplate for our wii guitar. Did i mention it was free?

I don't know if everyone gets a faceplate or not, but we got one because we returned our mono disc for a new one. So if you recently sent yours in, watch the mail... a goodie might be heading your way.

ok ok, here are the pics...

This is the note they enclosed with the faceplate:

Stupid Java and MySQL java.io.CharConversionException... bleh!
Tuesday, March 4, 2008, 09:24 PM - School
So i have to do java. (I'm using Ubuntu 7.10)

While attempting to connect to the mysql database i get the java.io.CharConversionException error.

After a few hours of searching i have come up with some solutions.

1.
Add these entries to your /etc/mysql/my.cnf

[mysqld]
default-character-set=utf8

[client]
default-character-set=utf8

2.
If that doesn't work, add useOldUTF8Behavior=true to the connection string. ie:

con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/test?useOldUTF8Behavior=true","user", "hey2dude");

Worked wonderfully for me.
Will i ever use this post again? I'm going to say no... :(

New Video card.
Tuesday, February 5, 2008, 12:09 AM - Computers
Yay, my new video card came today. a Evga 8800GT. I picked this bad boy up for about 225$ online. So far on my tests it has kicked the crap out of my 6800GS that it replaces. I ran a few tests thus far. The few games i have had a chance to try have run wonderfully. FEAR,UT3, and Counter-strike:Source all with full settings at 1600x1200. Ran like silk.

Here is my 3dmark06 score for my old card and new card. Both stock. 8800gt is 600/900. I will overclock later.

Snowmobile Moto-Cross into the house.
Saturday, January 19, 2008, 02:35 PM - Family
We got both our snowmobiles running. A 82 Yamaha Exciter 400, and a 65 Yamaha something... We had willy and Lori over to ride with us. Silly me i let the Wife take the nice machine and head off with it, so i hopped on to keep track of her. We went over a hill but Willy didn't make it, so as i was pulling him over the hill ol Wifey gun it over a mound of snow directly in front of the house. She Flew! She launched over the mound, bailed off, and the machine went of a flight of stairs and slammed into the house. She flew about 15 feet... not a lot for some of you. She on the other hand only had about a 15 foot run at it.

This is her standing by her little boo boo. Her parents were sleeping when they heard the house shake. So everyone was up at this point in time. She did less damage than i thought she would. She broke the rail on the steps and put a hole in the siding. Other than that (and maybe a bruise on her legs) nothing was hurt.

New office. New Desk.
Thursday, December 20, 2007, 07:06 PM - Family
Hi,

Willie gave me a desk from his work. Well, i took my couch and the old desks out and put the new one in. It was quite the little project. The desk luckily came in two pieces so i was able to get it in the little doorway.

Most of the stuff is put back, but things like my KVM and MAC are not hooked up yet.

Old office (the cave)

New office, it actually looks and feels like a real office now instead of a little room with computers in it.
